A WhatsApp link is just a prefilled conversation link

The link opens WhatsApp with a selected phone number and, optionally, a prefilled message. It does not send the message automatically. The user still sees the conversation and chooses whether to send. That distinction matters for consent and for avoiding misleading “auto-send” claims.

Use the international phone format

For reliable links, use the country code and number without local trunk prefixes, spaces or punctuation. An Indian mobile number is normally represented with country code 91 followed by the 10-digit mobile number. Test the final link on both a phone and desktop if customers use both.

Prefilled message example

A business can use a message such as “Hello, I need a quotation for a 60-ton weighbridge.” The text is URL-encoded inside the link so spaces and punctuation work correctly. Keep the message short enough that the user can review it before sending.

Privacy and spam

Do not publish personal phone numbers without permission or use generated links to facilitate unsolicited bulk messaging. A click-to-chat link is best used where the user has intentionally chosen to contact the business.
