EMI Calculator

Use the free EMI Calculator with instant live results, clear INR inputs and an easy result breakdown. Mobile-friendly calculator with no signup.

How to use EMI Calculator

  1. Enter the values requested by the calculator.
  2. Review the instant result breakdown and change inputs to compare scenarios.
  3. Use the result as a working estimate; verify regulated tax, investment or legal figures when needed.

How the EMI estimate is calculated

The calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula with the loan amount, annual interest rate and tenure converted to monthly values. It shows the estimated monthly EMI, total payment and total interest across the selected tenure.

Actual lender schedules can differ because of processing fees, insurance, rate resets, rounding, prepayments and the exact disbursement date. Use this as a comparison estimate, then check the lender’s repayment schedule.

EMI is based on a reducing balance formula

For a standard amortising loan, EMI depends on principal, periodic interest rate and number of instalments. Each payment contains both interest and principal. Early in the schedule, the outstanding balance is larger, so the interest portion is usually higher. As principal reduces, more of the same EMI goes toward principal repayment.

Interest rate comparison needs care

A quoted annual rate should not be confused with a flat-rate loan or with the total effective cost after processing fees, insurance and other charges. Two loans with the same headline rate can still have different total costs. Use the calculator for repayment maths, then compare the lender’s actual annualised cost and fee schedule.

Worked example

For a ₹5,00,000 loan over five years, the EMI changes materially when the rate changes even by a few percentage points. The total interest is the sum of all instalments minus the original principal. Extending tenure lowers the monthly EMI but normally increases total interest because the balance remains outstanding for longer.

Prepayment effect

A principal prepayment can reduce future interest, but lenders may handle the remaining schedule differently: some reduce tenure, some reduce EMI, and some charge or restrict prepayment depending on product and rules. Confirm the lender’s terms before treating a calculator estimate as the final settlement schedule.
