Scanning is not payment
A QR code can prefill payment information, but money moves only after the payer reviews and authorises the transaction in their UPI app. A generated QR is therefore a payment instruction, not evidence that the transaction succeeded.
Verify the payee name
Before approving a payment, compare the payee shown by the UPI app with the business or person you intend to pay. If the name looks unexpected, stop and verify. A printed QR can be replaced physically, and a mistyped UPI ID can generate a perfectly scannable but incorrect code.
Merchant reconciliation
For a business, the correct proof of receipt is the transaction recorded in the bank or payment-provider system. Customer screenshots can be edited or can show a pending state. Reconcile amount, transaction reference and time, especially for high-value goods or services.
Fixed amount versus open amount
An open QR contains the payee and lets the payer enter the amount. A fixed-amount QR can be convenient for invoices or counters. In either case, the user should still confirm the amount shown inside the payment app before authorising.
Printed QR hygiene
Inspect physical QR stands regularly. If the linked UPI ID changes, replace old material. For permanent signage, print the business name and UPI ID in readable text near the QR so staff and customers can cross-check it.
Never approve a collect request blindly
Receiving money does not require entering a UPI PIN into a stranger’s request flow. The PIN authorises money leaving the account. If someone says a PIN is needed to “receive” a payment, verify the situation independently before proceeding.
Why this guide exists
Divya Tools publishes utilities for quick practical work. The purpose of this guide is to expose the assumptions and common failure points that a calculator or converter cannot communicate through input fields alone. If you spot a factual or functional error, use the contact page so the page can be reviewed and corrected.
